When we first came to Hazleton, just to visit, just to feel it out, a Jewish lady, Dara, looked at us with tears in her eyes and said,
“You’re telling me there might be a Shabbat meal here again? I can’t remember the last time I sat at one.”
After knocking on Richard's door and putting tefillin on him, he asked, “Which Chabad are you from?”
We said, “The future Chabad of Greater Hazleton.”
He paused, smiled softly, and said: “From your mouth to G-d’s ears.”
Those moments said everything.
That’s when we realized: the Jews of Greater Hazleton have been waiting.
Waiting for connection. For warmth. For family. For true, living Judaism.
And so, with Hashem’s help and the Rebbe’s brachos, we’re setting out to open a Chabad House that will bring life, light, and community back to a place that’s been waiting far too long.
Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, Torah learning, one on one support, and so much more, it all begins here.
Hazleton may be known for coal, but we’re here for the Neshamos, ready to light up with just a spark. (No mining helmet required;).
